Don't Be a Troglodyte, Cloud Computing is Already Changing Your Organization:

C-Suite Executives can stop reading now, this post isn't written for you.

At the turn of the last century, many large organizations had a VP of Electricity - responsible for the reliable on-site generation and availability of electricity. A lot of articles have been written about the parallels between the VP of Electricity and the modern-day CIO, and most of them stretch the analogy too far and misallocate the risk. The C-Suite execs aren't the ones at risk here. Cloud Computing has grown beyond its cutting-edge roots. It's now a mature, cost-effective and eminently-capable solution worthy of consideration by any organization. Yeah, yeah, and you've heard all this before. Here's the thing: If you're not aware of your organization's cloud strategy, then there's a good chance you're not included in it.

I'm one to eschew devices and technologies I think are driven by mindless fanboyism, and occasionally it puts me at a disadvantage. (I'm virtually inept at helping my father-in-law with his myriad Apple devices, for example.) Apple-troglodyte I might be, but it doesn't threaten my job security, and I'm not deliberately charting a career path into the past. Taking that same attitude toward cloud computing handicaps both your ability to quickly deliver solutions as well as your career.

If you're not aware of your organization's cloud strategy, then there's a good chance you're not included in it.
